Computer Game Concepts

Introduction

In this assignment we have been tasked with creating three different game ideas that could possibly be made into a fully functioning game. The games must be brand new ideas and feature our own imagination. I hope to create three completely different games all with their own special quality, I hope to have games that are of different genres and totally different characters.

Video game idea 1 - Duck 'n' Run

1. Brief Introduction

My story is a tale about a Duck who was drunk at a party and has lost all of his golden eggs.
He must then navigate his way through each treacherous level and try the collect all the lost eggs but on his way he is put off by the devil heads who are out to get him

2. Terrain

Both my levels include multiple objects to walk across and can be used to avoid enemies and collect the coins.

3. Architecture

The architecture of the game will revolve around peacefulness since its about a hungover duck, there isn’t really anything to mention about the games architecture.

4. Objects

Both of my levels have objects to help navigate your way to the end of the level. Some are blocks to jump on to get to the end but others will kill you such as the spike or the moving devil head. I have also added pick up eggs that you must collect and are scattered throughout the level.

5. Characters

In my game I have added two characters. The first is a duck with a very cool looking party hat on, I created the character using the piskel app online and moved him into my construct game once created. My second is an NPC devil head who is a danger to the duck and if he touches him he will die. I created this character in construct by adding an object and changing the interactions so that when my character runs into him he dies.

6. Non-Playing Characters (NPC)

My NPC’s are in the form of enemy's that are located randomly around both levels of the game. They are little red balls with black horns with eyes and a mouth. On contact with the NPC the character will die and you will have to start a die.

7. Feedback

Alex: I enjoyed the game, and the smoothness of the animations was very pleasing. Good Anakin, good.

Lewis: in enjoyed the gameplay despite the difficulty, I like the colours although the sound was annoying.

Brandon: Awesome game, I enjoyed the second level in particular it was challenging! I would improve on the difficulty of the first level although I understand its purpose is to show you the ropes of the game.

8. Interface

I didn’t add much of a game interface but I added a piece of text highlighting which level it is, another one which will count your collected eggs as you pick them up and another to tell the player how to move

9. Perspectives

My game was created using construct 2 and therefore it will only be flat 2d plat former game with a panned camera angle

10. Full-Motion Video (FMV)

To make my game better I would add a full motion video so players have a better experience. Although I did not add this feature I think it would be a good addition into the game. I would maybe introduce the character with FMV.

Video game idea 2 -  Food Fort

1. Brief Introduction

I, in a group project with Alex and Brandon are designing an idea for a very controversial poaching game, named Food Fort. The overall story of this will be the food fort members that go on poaching parties across the world, and bring celebrities that are sometimes unknowing of what will happen. The members will sell knives and weapons, and will sneak up on the animal and kill it. The art style will be very unique and cartoon-like, very much like cup-head but instead of a 2D plat-former, a 3D game. The main character will be a stylish and cool monkey, with his side-kick being a young blood-hound.

2. Terrain

There will be a few terrains that the character will visit, the main one being in parts of Africa mainly in the desert areas where the wild animals such as elephants will be waiting. It will be very sandy but areas with greenery similar to the terrain in the Lion King. Some other areas will be in places like Australia which have a different set of animals but the landscape is similar. Another terrain that our character will be the zoo, in which out killer monkey will have the option to kill any animal he wishes

3. Architecture

The games architecture will feature different building and objects that show the player where the character is at that time. For example, if the character is in a zoo, the layout will have different cages, maybe a shop and other building you may find in a zoo.

4. Objects

The objects in this game will be the weapons, so the knives and melee weapons, and the other deadlier weapons, with the main one being the rifle. A key aspect to the game will be when the player makes a kill, they will receive a trophy. For example when the player kills an elephant, they will receive a tusk, with a turtle it would be a shell etc. These trophies will be turned into armor, so nearer the end of the game the player will have a helmet full of tusks, a turtles shell, crocodile leather etc.

5. Characters

The main character for this game will be the monkey called Chib who was once abused by the zoo and is now out for the kill. Chib is a contracted killer and only kills who he is told, he randomly receives phone calls from his boss but we don't know who his boss is until the end. He is wearing a hat and is carrying a rifle which he uses to kill the other animals and humans.

6. Non-Playing Characters (NPC)

The non-playable characters will be the animals themselves, and the humans that try to stop the poaching, for example one of the levels will be featured in a zoo, where the player will infiltrate and hunt down the animals. Once the player is found, the zoo-keepers will hunt him down. The other non-playable character will the blood-hound, Rifle, who will aid the player in hunting down tougher animals.

7. Feedback

Lewis: It's great, i think it could really work as a game.

Ethan: its a funny idea and will make people question their life choices.

Joe: the game idea is very unique, with a lot of creative concepts.......

8. Interface

The user interface will feature a map so that the player can see where her can go and where he should go once they've completed their task. We also hope to add a health bar in there to let the player know if the character is injured. As a group we also hope to add a counter to track how many animals have been killed during each task/mission.

9. Perspectives

Our aim is to have this game set in a 3D world, the character will be seen from a third person perspective possibly. This will be debated before the final creation of the game as there are benefits for both first and third person perspectives.

10. Full-Motion Video (FMV)

For full motion videos we hope to try and add different cuts scenes into the final game (unlikely since we haven't been taught and our computers are shocking). Some of these cut scenes could possibly be our hired killer on the phone to his boss talking about who is next on the 'Kill' list. Also scenes showing our character brutally killing the other animals being could be another, similar to games like Mortal Kombat.

Video game idea 3 - Rocket Man

1. Brief Introduction

A game that is based in space and you play as a man that jumps through time zones and dimensions. He is a space traveler that has been jumping from dimensions for hundreds of years. The main story will be our character going to different planets and fighting the Alien dictators running it. The art style will be very basic, very blocky objects but somewhat detailed.

2. Terrain

There will be a multitude of different terrains depending on where our main character is at the time. Most the time the terrain will be earth like, not many hills around, mostly flat land.

3. Architecture

There will be a lot of different buildings for our character to search through. He will be able to buy things from shops and things like that. His main place will be his own Planet where all of the other dimension jumpers will be located. It will be just another version of earth, a much more progressed version.

4. Objects

The objects that the character will carry will be his '...' that allows his to jump through dimensions and time. He doesn't carry anything else, yet. Still to be decided. There will be objects that you can collect or trade in at the shops for currency.

5. Characters

The main character will be the only playable character in the game. His name is yet to be decided, perhaps Barry. He will be a young looking man with brown hair wearing a brown suit.

6. Non-Playing Characters (NPC)

There will be a few NPC's within the game, there will be a few places that you can go to to trade in objects that you have collected by visiting different places. Different objects have different prices. other NPC's will be people that will help you and give you clues as to where to go and what to do.

7. Feedback

Alex - Bit bland, could be better
Lewis - I like it, could add some better enimies
Kyle - not too bad, need explaining clearer

8. Interface

In the interface i will have the characters current whereabouts along with his health and progression bar. I would have these included as it would give the player a feeling of control over the character.

9. Perspectives

I hope that the perspective of the game could be from an above perspective looking down onto my character. I would choose this as it is easier for the computer to process the surroundings.

10. Full-Motion Video (FMV)

If i was to add FMV for this game i would add cut-scenes of my character speaking  to other people in relation to the final story of the game like if he was to meet someone who has some relevance

conclusion

In conclusion i have decided to go with my second game idea, Food Fort. I have decided to choose this option as it opens up more for me to express my own art work and my own ideas, it seems the most malleable to create a story. The disadvantages of this however is that i wish to have it being played in 3D and that is probably the most challenging factor.
